Hansa and St. Pauli

One of the fiercest rivalries in German football since their very first meeting in 1993. Pauli's left-wing attitude and nationalistic tendencies amongst parts of the Hansa fan scene seemed to "connect" immediately.

Sold out ghost game in Dresden

Because of riots during a cup tie, Dynamo Dresden had to play a league game behind closed doors. Despite the ban, the second division outfit started to offer tickets to the fans. This proved a resounding success: Dynamo announced that they sold any of the 32,066 available "ghost tickets" (which equals the stadium's capacity).

Football beneath the tower

Stuttgarter Kickers are the German club that plays for the longest time in the same stadium. And most likely the only one doing so at the foot of a TV tower.

Chairman on the terrace

For a couple of years now, Schalkes de facto chairman Clemens Tönnies prefers to attend the annual Revierderby in Dortmund with fellow supporters on the terrace. The last meeting has seen smoke and fireworks coming from the away end. And Tönnies starting to take photos of the troublemakers.

Eastern bloc party
Well, Uber Football do not support any national teams. Nevertheless here are the final votes of the Jogian jury:

Goalkeepers:
Manuel Neuer (Bayern München), Tim Wiese (Werder Bremen), Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover 96)

Defenders:
Holger Badstuber (Bayern München), Jerome Boateng (Bayern München), Benedikt Höwedes (FC Schalke 04), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund), Marcel Schmelzer (Borussia Dortmund), Philipp Lahm (Bayern München), Per Mertesacker (Arsenal FC)

Midfielders:
Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen), Mario Götze (Borussia Dortmund), Sami Khedira (Real Madrid), Toni Kroos (Bayern München), Thomas Müller (Bayern München), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern München), Mesut Özil (Real Madrid), Marco Reus (Borussia Mönchengladbach), André Schürrle (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Ilkay Gündogan (Borussia Dortmund)

Forwards:
Mario Gomez (Bayern München), Miroslav Klose (SS Lazio), Lukas Podolski (1. FC Köln)

No big surprises really but I'm not totally convinced that Löw chose the better one of the two Benders. Maybe someone should tell him that identical twins are the spitting image of each other. Anyway, we are very much relieved that Draxler didn't make it.

Klopp 1-3 Podolski

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 Uber Football No comments
Hey Jürgen, why the long face?
Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp (being asked by a Sky reporter about a possible interest in buying 1. FC Cologne forward Lukas Podolski) on Sunday:

"Lukas is an exceptional player. But I believe him to be hyped in Cologne so much that it is hard for him to perform well regularly. With his potential, he had to be one of the best strikers, if not the best striker, in the league – but he is not. This is because he is not able to deliver often enough. And then it is too expensive for us  – for a good performance every few weeks."

Shortly afterwards Lukas Podolski responded via local tabloid Express:

"What a charming statement by Mr. Klopp. Maybe he's a little sad because I already denied his transfer requests twice. Then again he's right though: Actually I am too expensive for Borussia Dortmund due to the absence of Champions League revenues. Now that they have been eliminated finishing last place in their group, I absolutely understand that it wouldn't pay off."

Lukas Podolski. Master of counter attacks.
